Attitude toward work
There are something [-s] interested me in paragraph eight. What does the “ethnic diversity” mean?
Firstly, ethnic means people or nationality; “diversity” stands for multiplicity. Thus, ‘ethnic diversity’ represents many nationalities, tolerate or employ different people in one company. This problem has happened in a long [I prefer large] number of countries. And it’s hard to deal with. What is the negative impression when a company lay off the workers in a year of profits?
As we all know, company is profitability organization, without profit, it can not survive, it is not acceptable to lay off the workers in a year of profits. Reducing the staff in a year of profits or not, motivation, inventions, all of them are harmful to companies.
At the same time, the word “reluctant” draw my attention, it means “dislike” not “unlike”, and they are different. Dislike is a verb and none, unlike is adjective. The above one means distaste or hate. Another one is instead of “different”. It is a difference to tell apart to them. [?]
Therefore, in my perspectives, this text is easy to read, but uneasy to understand.
As the author told us, “when someone at Hearst does something worthy of recognition, flowers are sent to the employee’s spouse.”
When the stuffs [staff] make a big contribution, and then the company will praise or reward them.
Why not the author uses “a department store”? As we all know, a prestigious department store usually sells more expensive, valuable and fashionable good than the common department store. So we can get an idea that the company regards their employee’s values.
