淮海经济区淮海经济区位于亚欧大陆桥东部桥头堡区域，地理位置优越，区域条件突出。该区东接齐鲁、南连江淮、东濒黄海、西临中原，在全国经济总格局中占有重要位置，拥有亚欧大陆桥东部桥头堡的突出区位，承担着中国经济东靠西移接力站的重任。淮海经济区历史文化底蕴丰厚，是中华民族发祥地之一。该区有泰山、曲阜等历史名胜和孔子、刘邦、项羽以及近代周恩来等众多名人遗迹，是中国旅游内涵极为丰富的地区之一。淮海经济区交通便利，区内京沪、京九、陇海、新石二纵二横铁路干线形成“井”形框架，京福、京沪、连霍、日东高速公路及国道干线构成密集运输网络。连云港、日照港天然深水良港，京杭运河穿境而过，鲁宁输油管道纵贯南北，航空线路基本覆盖经济区，便捷的交通使本区具有货畅其流、人便其游的优势条件。
该区中心城市是徐州。
淮海经济区成立十五年来，共同发展事业取得了明显成就。2000年，区域GDP总量达5977亿元，为联合 前的11．2倍，财政收入409亿元，为联合前的8.2倍， 社会商品零售额为1988亿元，为联合前的7．6倍。“九 五”期间，经济区GDP总量年均增长ll％，财政收入年增长15％以上。淮海经济区的产业结构有了明显的调整，区域经济实力有了快速增强，总体迈入了工业的初始阶段。
