安杰拉·兰斯伯里出生在英国伦敦，二战是来到美国，1944年她的处女作《郎心似铁》（即《GASLIGHT》）为赢得了奥斯卡提名并获得了观众的认可。1945年她再次赢得奥斯卡提名，对于一个刚刚涉足影坛的人来说，这简直就是奇迹。此后她在16年里获得了4个TONY将和另一个奥斯卡提名，不过终于未能问鼎影后。
