伯特•兰卡斯特(Burt Lancaster)出生于纽约一个邮局工人家庭共有弟兄姐妹5人还街头乱跑时候兰卡斯特就对体操运动产生了浓厚兴趣后来到一个马戏团当上了杂技演员受伤后才离开那里第二次世界大战服兵役期间被引荐到美国劳军联合组织做宣传表演
1946年第一次参加电影拍摄《The Killers》中充当一个配角从此一鸣惊人成为电影明星虽然没有接受过正规训练但肯于自学掌握了不少当演员技巧1948年和哈勒德•赫克特及詹姆斯•希尔一商量三人成立了自己制片公司事业追求道路上兰卡斯特先后塑造过各种不同电影角色主要电影作品包括《红海盗》(The Crimson Pirate1952)《乱世忠魂》(From Here to Eternity1953)《灵与欲》(Elmer Gantry1960) 和《大西洋城》(Atlantic City1980)等
兰卡斯特电影制片公司--赫克特-希尔-兰卡斯特公司先后出品了《马蒂》(Marty)和《之子与归》(The Catered Affair)等影片其中《马蒂》获1955年奥斯卡奖最佳影片奖1980年兰卡斯特《南方英雄》(Local Hero)和《梦幻之地》(Field of Dreams)等几部影片中担任过配角兰卡斯特最令人难以忘记独特说话声音和与众不同开怀大笑风格
